TWALKITOUT: “A heinous act of inhumane behavior propelled by momentary dictatorship of malevolence thinking over one’s actions.” These words would not suffice to explain the word ‘Rape’.
It just lot more than that. In a complex knit social structure of ours, with an abundant population with varied access to different resources, it’s difficult to postulate that what circumstances drive one’s conscience to commit such an un-called for act.
Minimum punishment for Rape in India as detailed by Supreme Court stands at 7 years of imprisonment, it could go further but to what extent? 10 years in with certain conditions and/or a heavy fine. Is that it? Teaching a lesson to an individual is more important or we need to leave a message for the rest? The top notch in the power will have to open up their eyes and do whatever is necessary without taking a cushion.
Lack of education and awareness are not the only demons to be blamed, as we encounter incidents involving educated people as well. It’s the lack of stress on morals in our education at elementary levels and absenteeism of an exemplary punishment that sets the immoral character out of fear and out of bound.
When she plays an irreplaceable role in a family, society, workplace, pays her taxes, fulfills her responsibility of a sincere citizen of the country, all a women seeks for is respect and safety.
Is she asking for much?
The one’s who know the answer, already know much. It’s high time to teach the ones who do not. Figures are gaining strength with each passing day. Respect the women and respect their right to express. They deserve it as much as anybody else does. We need stringent laws and a serious, rigorous and exemplary punishment for rape in India.
