Owning the title of queen of hills, the summer capital of British government in India, Shimla is a living city in the adobe of nature. Be it for the nature’s utmost panoramic views, the heritage left by the British Empire such as the Toy Train, Vice Regal Lodge or blazed by the heat of plains, people come to this place in intriguing numbers. This inflow of Indian and foreign tourist has given rise to a lot of modernization within the city. Talking about a stroll on the Mall Road, one definitely looks for a good restaurant to sit and enjoy the nature’s bliss. Keeping the corporate selection aside, these places have made their place in this list for their specialties to give you a real feeling of Shimla’s heart-beat without shelling those bills from your pocket.
This one of the oldest bar turned restaurant in Shimla. Embassy stands out for its view, ambiance and feel that the owners have bestowed into it. This place speaks out for itself with the touch and taste. They serve super yummy cakes and cookies and the food is delicious. The wood work is amazing and the panaromic view of Shimla is just unbeatable.
CCD, The Mall
Just like any other city in India, Shimla has a couple of Café Coffee Day’s places to sit. Right in the heart of the Mall Road, It’s easy to spot near the Gaiety Theater. Along with a menu full of combo’s and CCD’s specialties, it offers a huge space to sit. The whole place is divided into two, the first section gives u a seat where you can sit and watch people on the Mall Road. The other section gives you the amazing view of Shimla’s lush green forest cover plus the city, including the 108 meters high Lord Hanuman’s statue on Jakhu Hill. Place is good to sit with friends and family as well.
‘QILAA’ is one of a kind restaurant in Shimla because of its amazing ambiance and menu full of variety. It started with a unique concept of sitting, giving you a feeling of being in a real qila with the decor and laid back seats. Based on the concept of leisure dining and authenticity of various cuisines. They offer a lot of variety in Chinese, Indian/Pakistani, Italian and fast food. It’s kind of a happening place for the youth and not to be missed if you want a wonderful dining experience with family and friends. You need to hop a couple of stairs next to Syndicate Bank branch on the Mall Road.
To the ones who come to Shimla for it beauty, this place is a must stop for a tea or breakfast. Ridge café has made to this list for it’s superb location. It presents you the wide open sky above Shimla in front of you while you sit and enjoy your meals. Situated just behind the Church on the Ridge it’s a two minutes-walk. Light on your pocket, the food is good and the view gets better with the white floating clouds in your eye level over the Shimla sky.
Aunty’s is one of the oldest Chinese food joint in Shimla with a “fan following” in real sense. Having made its name in leading newspapers, they just go on with preserving the taste and quality in their authentic Chinese food. Beautiful Lamp Shades based on ‘Feng Shui’ add up to the ambiance. The place barely seats 20 people in a petite place, but if you love Chines food and you are in Shimla, you got to visit Aunty’s. Stairs next to Baljee’s restaurant on the Mall would take you here.
This list would go on and on, but we made an effort to keep it close to those places which would give you something different from just being served food in classy dishes to shell out money.
