TWALKITOUT: The famous Kedarnath shrine and the Gauri Kund Kedar Nath trekking way along the shores of Mandakini river have been destroyed by unprecedented flash floods hitting the area and other parts of Uttarakhand. Kedarnath shrine, famous for being among the 12 Jyotirlingas, the shrine situated at an altitude of 3593 metres (11760 feet) in Rudraprayag district is visited by lakhs of Hindu pilgrims every year.
According to the pictures available, nothing is left except the debris of demolished rest houses, hotels and shops. Around 50 people are confirmed dead in reports and 500 reported missing. Death toll in Uttrakhand has touched a mark of 102 as reported by ZeeNews.
The temple structure stands amid the mud havoc wreaked by floods.the major reason behind the flod in kedarnath shrine is breaking away of a rock holding the Charbari lake reservoir.around 5000 people are reported missing. Rescue and disaster management teams are working with the help of airforce helicopters. Area is tough to reach due to the harsh topography and most of the roads have been washed out in the floods.
